We are a small rural school district. We work hard to provide opportunities for our students that meet all of their needs, both academically and social-emotionally.
All of my students have disabilities or need increased levels of academic support and they are absolutely incredible.
They come to my room for extra support on top of their typical classes. These students don't let the increased work deter them, they continue to rise to the daily challenges. They benefit from small group instruction and real world connections.
My Project
My students have a wide variety of deficits. Two of the most common difficulties are following multi-step directions and writing. I would love to get a Twister Pen Starter Kit to work on both of these skills.
The steps required to make the pens would be a great way for students to practice multi-step tasks with a tangible outcome they can use and be proud of.
The second part to this project would be to then create how-to writing tasks off of this activity. It would be a great way to help students with writing organization and the importance in details. Once students have grown confident in their skills creating pens we will use the display case to either sell them in the Teacher's Lounge for practice handling money or as gifts for staff/student appreciation. I would like that choice to be left up to my students, how they want to use their creations.
