I teach at a k-8 rural school outside our city of 15,500 people. We feed into 3 different local high school districts. Our little school is surrounded by corn or bean fields to the North and a forest with a creek that flows through it to the south of our building. We have about 90 students each year with a teacher to each grade level. We all become a family, since the classes are together from kindergarten through 8th grade. We have very little turn over with staff due to our size.
By time they reach 5th, 6th, 7th grade, we see how our students strive to become great leaders in and out of school!
Due to our small school, the students strive to know everyone from Kindergarten to 8th grade. We do not have a school library, so the students learn to share and spread the word of the great titles each teacher has in his/her classroom. We have very little space for our specials for the day like P.E. and Music class. The students work together to make the best of our building situation. Our students become strong individuals in sports and academics.
My Project
Students Kindergarten through Third grade will be able to create and use their imagination to build structures along with building different simple machines. Lego bricks have been known to teach students about counting and measuring along with the ability of using their imagination to create anything their little heart desires.
Students love legos and so lets use them to learn about simple machines in science class and visualizing math problems!
The Creative Lego Brick sets can help a child work out multiplication problems and also represent patterns and symmetry. The students will be guided and will also be able to experiment with the WeDo 2.0 set and the Simple & Powered Machine sets. Students will be able to investigate and solve problems, build collaboration and communication skills with others.
