My school is located in a high poverty area. For the fourth year in a row, breakfast and lunch are available to all students at no charge.
My students teach me new things everyday and I can only hope they learn something from me.
This is my third year to teach fourth grade and my hope is to instill a love of learning in my students.
I team teach and between the two classes, I have forty students in my classroom throughout the school day. I have discovered that each student is special in their own way.
My Project
As a math teacher, I usually teach everything whole group. This year, I am trying some new things. One thing I want to do is implement centers/workstations into the math block. By doing this, I will be able to teach in small groups and really see who understands the concepts and who does not. I will use the data gathered from small groups to pull students for enrichment and intervention.
I want to use the PowerPen and Quiz Cards as one of the centers/workstations.
These will allow students to review and practice 4th grade math standards. These pens and quizzes will give the students immediate feedback on their understanding of the concepts.
