My students need access to high quality centers materials to engage in learning. Many centers need to be easy enough for students to complete independently while I am working with small groups of students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful, energetic group of four and five year olds. We service students who are at the highest poverty levels and all qualify for free tuition and free lunch. Also, in order to qualify for our program they must meet certain income guidelines. Despite these circumstances, these little ones come to school every single day ready and eager to learn. In Pre-K much time is spent on learning through play and socializing. Supporting these students today helps them to see their potential for the future and these students are our future. They are future leaders, innovators, teachers, and doctors.
My Project
Young children learn through play and the natural desire to explore the world around them. It is very important that in the Pre-K classroom children have access to high quality materials in highly engaging learning experiences and centers. These activities, including the letter construction set and lacing letters, are purposefully planned as they support natural development and ensure that students are being exposed to developmentally appropriate materials. Students also engage in exploring their physical world and noting changes that they see occurring. Whether it be the leaves changing color, or a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, these changes help shape the way that children think and view the world around them.
