My students need math manipulatives, Perler melting beads, fine motor and other learning activities to actively engage their hands as well as their minds as they learn and practice concrete concepts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are empowering students through education. Students with disabilities need help learning basic tasks other students may learn through observation. My students learn best through hands-on activities and repeated practice.
My high school students all have intellectual and social disabilities.
They're in a community-based classroom to meet their educational needs. They need specialized instruction and practice to learn everyday skills that come easily to their same age peers without disabilities. We focus on functional living skills such as laundry, meal preparation and cooking, household chores, practical vocational skills, and personal care. My goal is to empower them through independence with daily skills.
My Project
My students need frequent repetition to solidify concepts they are being taught. Frequent, repetitive practice of any skill can get boring extremely quickly. One way to avoid my students becoming bored with practice is to give them ways to get their hands involved as much as their minds.
Hands-on activities are more engaging than simply practicing skills with worksheets.
The math manipulatives I am requesting will give my students a variety of ways to practice counting and number recognition. These concepts will be practiced using Unifix cubes, number sequencing puzzles, number match locks, and jumbo buttons. Geostix, magnetic designer and cards, colorful Perler beads, and burger sequencing activities will give my students multiple fun ways to practice fine motor skills.
