My Students

My students are visual learners and we are always fumbling with displaying visual activities that are easy for our students to see and reach.

My students face many challenges that you and I can only imagine.

I teach students with autism in second through fourth grades. We are in a self-contained school with students with autism ranging from kindergarten age to 22 years old. We depend a lot on the use of visuals in the classroom to help the children be successful in their day. The students I serve have varying disabilities.

My Project

My students are very visual and hands-on. We do a lot of activities that use picture choices. It becomes challenging to find a place to display the materials where students can see and manipulate the pictures. We are usually having to tape things to the dry erase board. When students try to manipulate the pictures the tape falls off or bends and we have to start over. It makes it difficult for our students to participate in group activities

This teaching easel will allow my students to participate in group activities by giving them access to pictures and felt pieces to go along with stories and units.

They will be able to see and reach the materials, which will allow them to be hands-on with learning
