Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” ― Benjamin Franklin
Great teachers involve students in their learning. I believe that if I tell my students what I want them to learn, a few will learn it and most will not. If I involve them, they will internalize it.
Our school is in a small town, and many of our students have never been anywhere other than our town.
Children need to have experiences to connect their learning, and many times the only experiences they truly have are in the classroom. My students are limited in their experiences, especially compared to other schools within our district. Believe it or not, not all students have books in their homes or manipulatives to help with homework. I want to be able to provide as many hands-on and virtual experiences as I can for my students. My students are willing to learn, and crave the experiences they need in order to be successful.
My Project
My students will be able to have a variety of activities to choose from in both math and language arts. For example, they will be able to practice skills through computer games. I will also have materials I need to teach in a large group setting, and students will be able to add notes to their interactive notebooks. Using the magnetic materials I will be able to show students in a large group lesson, and allow students to manipulate materials and solidify their learning.
Computer games are always a big hit with students and I know my students never seem to mind doing their work when it has something to do with technology. I know these materials are going to help them learn through hands-on experiences.
When the right materials are available for children to experience learning, they will learn.
When the environment is engaging and user friendly, they will learn. The materials I have chosen in this project will help my students be successful. Successful students will be encouraged to continue learning and become lifelong learners.
