Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students are in the cross-categorical special education program in my district. They are 5- and 6-year-olds of varying abilities. I have students with autism and students who are developmentally delayed. More than half of my students are bilingual and require bilingual support within the classroom setting. All of my students receive related services on a daily basis, including speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and social work services.
"Don't give up, I believe in you all; a person's a person, no matter how small."- Dr. Seuss.
The unique abilities of each and every one of my students shape our classroom environment into a place for learning and growing. Each day, my students enter our classroom full of life, ready to learn, and excited for whatever the day may bring. From the moment they walk into the classroom, I focus on each child's ability for achievement and growth. I am hopeful to inspire, even our earliest of learners, to continue on their path to success.
My Project
My students will use literacy and math hands-on activities in our learning centers daily. My cross-categorical kindergarteners learn best by using manipulatives and objects to guide their learning. By having these activities, students will be able to access learning at their ability level, while also giving each student the opportunity to work independently.
Each of my students have a unique set of sensory needs.
My students will use a variety of fidgets, water beads, and paints to meet these needs. In our classroom, we have a Peace Corner. By creating a bin that includes sensory tools, my students will be able to choose the tool that best supports regulating their body and mind, in order to be ready for learning.
