My students need hands-on manipulatives and games which will allow them to review tasks which are taught. The Power Pen and cards will allow students to self monitor and work independently.
When you walk into a classroom you should be able to feel the mood it sets. I inspire to have a special education classroom which feels more like a home; not only in the decor but in the classroom community. There are multiple grade levels coming in and out of my classroom. This creates a sense of family with older and younger "siblings", learning together. My students live in a rural high poverty school district. The kids range from third to sixth grade. My classroom is forever changing from year to year in both needs and academic materials.
My Project
I work in a special education classroom, my students need time to review the concepts taught over and over again. Many times they will understand tasks when they are taught but will forget them entirely when we move on to a different topic. These materials will give my students the opportunity to have hands-on manipulatives, self-checking cards, and games to review a variety of topics.
Making learning fun is so important; when students enjoy learning they become lifelong learners.
The more engaging a game or manipulative is the greater success my students have with remembering topics. A topic taught in school is not something that can be forgotten, as these concepts are built upon each year.
I can have up to three grade levels in my classroom at a time; because of this, we operate on a group system. One group will work with me, while the others work in independent stations. These materials will provide our classroom with more fun and exciting opportunities for our stations.
