My students are an amazing group of 5 and 6 year-olds. I teach kindergarten in a small neighborhood school. Since we are a small neighborhood school, our students care for each other and have strong bonds. Even in kindergarten, many of our students have already known one another for years as friends and neighbors or from our local preschools. My class has bilingual students, special needs students, and students who are very high achieving. Every year the range of abilities is always great. My students work hard at school to achieve their academic goals and build lasting friendships.
My Project
Each of the materials requested will give my students important hands on practice during our independent center time. The Science centers will give my students opportunities to independently explore life cycles, plants, and weather. My students will use the math centers to get extra hands on practice with counting, patterns, shapes, and addition and subtraction.
My students learn best with hands on activities.
Our class has a small set of Magna-tiles already but not enough for building and exploration. With an additional set, students will be able to explore engineering and creating 3D shapes. The counting rockets will give our class enough materials to make it possible for a hands on center focusing on counting and number practice.
