My Project

I am currently teaching in a Life Skills classroom with students ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade. These students all have severe disabilities with a very large range of abilities, both academically and physically. We have found that when we can engage students' sensory needs in the learning experience we have far more success and higher achievement.

The goal of our project is to have tools needed to create hands-on learning experiences for our students such as sensory task boxes, social emotional task boxes and social emotional small groups through literacy.

The supplies I have included for purchase will allow us to create these sensory task boxes that will incorporate academic skills with hands-on sensory experiences and the books will create positive social emotional skills groups. Hands-on learning has been shown to be a positive and successful approach in my classroom and we hope to continue this in the upcoming school year.

The supplies will also help support an influx of students that we are getting for the '22-'23 school year, we are welcoming 6 more learners into our classroom. This adds extra challenges as well as a need for more sensory and social-emotional activities for all of our learners.
