My 5th-grade class is comprised of an amazing group of 33 students representing cultures from around the world. Families come from diverse backgrounds and many students are first generation US citizens. As this school year comes to a close, we are focusing on collaboration and expanding our understanding of social-emotional learning.
This year we are focusing on a Growth Mindset and Creativity!
We want to foster collaboration as well as individual intrinsic motivation. We want to support each other and work together to reach our defined SMART goals. To do this - my students need access to more hands-on learning tools.
My Project
My students are always looking for opportunities to "Ditch That Textbook" and do some hands-on learning! These materials offer something for every learner in my classroom.
With these materials, we will be learning by doing!
What could be more fun than building a Lego Robot that you can move and program with your own voice? Students will be integrating coding skills, using design thinking and developing real-world problem-solving skills.
Multiple modalities will be addressed with the combination of Lego robotics, art supplies, and good old-fashioned sewing machines! Hands-on learning equates to longer retention of skills and hands-on learners are truly engaged in what they are doing!
