Hello! My name is Morgan McKeeman and I am a first grade teacher at the same elementary school I attended. I absolutely love my firsties and our adventures together each day.
Our elementary school has a beautifully diverse population.
Each class has 19-21 students and typically has 5-6 English Language Learners (ELL) and 3-4 African American students. Over 60% of our students are considered "Economically Disadvantaged Students," which provides new challenges that our teachers must help these students overcome. Even with the challenges faced by our students and teachers, our school is consistently rated an "A" (highest possible rating) school which is quite an impressive achievement.
Learning should always be fun and engaging but this can be more difficult with certain concepts. I have spent some time reflecting on subject areas that my students have a hard time grasping and have found resources that will help foster their understanding of these topics.
Children learn best when they are able to work with hands-on materials.
Everything that I have found will ignite my students' creativity, critical thinking skills, and many of them will help build their ability to work cooperatively with others.
Phonics is a skill that needs to be continuously reinforced. The variety of phonics flash cards I have chosen will be a perfect addition to my curriculum.
