Our classroom is a fun, diverse environment that is composed of 40 students who are categorized as "at-risk." These students come from different cultural backgrounds and speak a variety of languages. Within the classroom there are more than 12 languages spoken. Most students speak their native language at home and therefore have limited English proficiency.
Creating meaningful classroom experiences is an essential part in helping the students learn and grow.
These students would benefit greatly from having supplies and that allow them to grow academically, socially, emotionally and physically.
My Project
These materials would make such a positive impact on the preschoolers. For example, the students would greatly benefit from having the insect, transportation, and family counters. These items help students work on important math skills such as counting and quantifying, sorting and using one to one correspondence while they are also based on the themes that we work on throughout the year.
Open ended materials are a great way to help the students engage in and use critical thinking skills.
The magnet tiles and interlocking discs are materials that allow students to design and build structures and materials.
While open ended activities are very important in preschool, games that require students to follow rules and directions are also important. The word building puzzles are a great way to expose students to letters and sounds.
The pocket chart will greatly help during large group times. Important vocabulary words can be displayed and be largely visible to all students.
