My students will enter kindergarten this year, and many did not go to preschool or have any type of prior educational experience.
Over ninety-seven percent of students at my school are categorized as socioeconomically disadvantaged.
This means that most students experience significant challenges outside of school. Despite the challenges they face, they have the desire and capability to learn. I look forward to continuing to create meaningful teaching experiences that will be the basis for learning for the rest of their lives.
My Project
My kindergarten classroom is full of energetic and curious 5-year-old students. My students come from homes across the rural area of Dunklin County, Missouri. Many of them come from low income homes.
The idea of school is a brand new concept for most of my students.
All of the children enter the school year with different learning abilities. They love playing, but they are also eager to learn all about letters and numbers and to learn how to read.
I strive to create a warm and engaging learning environment where the children feel safe and have fun! My students love exploring and discovering new things in their learning centers. When the students are not exploring in their centers, they are enjoying small and whole group hands-on learning.
I believe that learning through meaningful play is very powerful for children. Play can help enrich learning and develop key skills such as inquiry, expression, experimentation, and teamwork.
These hands-on manipulatives, art materials and educational games are an essential part of our everyday learning! Not only are the materials colorful, fun, and engaging, but they also help my early learners to gain a deeper understanding of what I am teaching. Kindergarten is the beginning of the students' academic journey, and these materials will help reach all different learners and give them the self-esteem they need to succeed.
