Do you remember completing worksheets in school? Did they catch your interest?
My fourth grade students attend school in a small, rural area.
We have been blessed with many gifts, including some provided through Donors Choose! While we do have a plethora of technology at our fingertips (thanks to a generous PTO and donors like you!) we are lacking in hands on materials, such as games, that can help students learn and retain important skills. My students are always eager to learn and work together, but like any fourth grader, they need materials that will capture their attention and make them want to learn and review our skills.
My Project
The resources I'm requesting are bright and colorful games or resources. But, more importantly, they cater to very specific skills and standards that are being taught. They provide extra practice in the form of games or visual representations of our classroom content. Students will be able to practice comprehension skills and vocabulary skills in both fiction and nonfiction texts with these games and activities. While they may be having fun, they will also be solidifying their classroom learning in a small group setting.
In the 21st century, students have access to many types of media.
We use our Smart Board daily and students are always engaged in this type of learning. However, students are often also tasked with working in small groups or independently. Having high interest, standards based activities that are readily available will make my preparation of activities more effective as well as ensure that the students are making the best use of their learning time.
