My Project

We have math tools that students can use every day, but it's very hard to display these tools on a vertical space. As a thinking classroom teacher, magnetic math tools will be helpful for those students who are still in the concrete learning stage. When they are showing their work they will be able to use the magnetic base 10 or the magnetic 10 frame. This will help them make sense of a problem and help display their thinking.

The use of math tools are used everyday in my first grade classroom and they are so important to help students learn in a concrete way.

Students use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using whiteboards allows me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. Sometimes there are worksheets that I want students to use to organize their thinking. I have been using sheet protectors as a tool to be able to reuse the worksheets. The problem that I am having is that the sheet protectors are being over used and becoming stained and destroyed from frequent use. The clear dry erase pockets can help lessen this problem, so it can be used for its very purpose. In addition, our eraser for our expo markers are more than 5 years old, so they are falling apart and students are having to share them. The colored Expo markers are to give students that need more support the opportunity to take another step in organizing by color coding their work. In addition, these same tools can be used across any subject area, which will be a plus!
