My students come together from across our district to attend a specialized program. They may be in a smaller environment but they each work very hard on grade level tasks with modified materials and accommodations. This year we were placed at a brand new school! As wonderful as the experience has been we are lacking a few necessary resources. Our classroom budget was used to purchase basic necessities. Many items that assist my students daily and help them achieve success were lost at another location due to flooding by Hurricane Harvey.
My Project
Our students rotate through several learning centers on a daily basis. These times are independent, small group and also provide for a 1:1 student teacher time. They need hands-on materials such as money, measuring items, math problem solvers, engineering kits, social skills activities, pretend play pieces and word builders students retain more of the information they're learning. Receiving information in multiple ways; auditory, visual and tactile, increases success rates.
Exposure to hands-on materials that mirror real life experiences will help my students generalize what they're learning in class across all environments.
With this project they would have resources to help them be successful with not only content such as math, science and social studies but also to aid in developing strong problem-solving skills and social-emotional well-being.
