This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am currently a Kindergarten ICT teacher in south Brooklyn, New York. I serve the urban community of south Flatbush, which is a neighborhood I grew up in thus it is very special to me. My goal is to always give back to the community in the best way possible; education! The school community is warm, welcoming and inviting with minimal funding. We are a Title I school with families who want the best for their children but are unable to provide due to their circumstances. Many of the families, unfortunately, fall below the poverty line and are currently placed in shelters or scattered housing. However, the school community works closely and diligently with the parents to provide the best education possible. The students are bright, bubbly and eager to learn. They are beautiful individuals and I am proud to serve this community.
My Project
Our school is a school with low attendance and family involvement. I am attempting to collaborate with families to help make learning fun. We are inviting parents in, several times of the year, to do hands on learning activities centered around the arts. We need the glue guns and the glue sticks because one of our biggest projects will be building a bridge using popsicle sticks. It is not only a team building or collaborative project but It also allows students to work on their ability to express their ideas and thoughts in a way that is unique and fun.
If you can find it in your heart to assist in getting the materials we initially need to kick start this project, it will be greatly appreciated.
