We live in a small rural town with a high English Language Learner population. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with 64% of our students receiving free and reduced price lunch.
Take a moment and imagine moving to a new country.
You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education before. You have never read or written and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach every day and this is the reason, I love my job. Many of my students have very limited schooling in their native language and are now thrust into a formal school setting. My students have come from other countries with no English skills, also many of them arrive with difficult situations. They hold the American Dream, but need the tools to make them successful.
My Project
My students will use the Chromebook daily while referring vocabulary words to images. While learning a new language can be difficult, having technology with in the classroom can help make this process easier. By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their language achievement.
My students will be assessed and progress monitored using an app that needs to be on a touchable screen.
This assessment will help the teachers differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of the language learners. Our school is limited with technology in the classrooms and this project will help build some technology in my classroom.
