My students need Stream Tables, Sand, a Density Flow Model, as well as a Solar Balloon so they can learn science concepts in a hands-on manner.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We do a lot of collaborative learning which forces students to communicate with their classmates. We try to get hands on as much as possible and use demos to show the different concepts. My goal is to prepare my students for the future by teaching them life skills but also to appreciate learning.
We are a small high school in the Central Valley of California.
We have a student population of less than 600 students. We have a large population of English Language Learners and 1st generation students. They have a great sense of pride in our school and community. When I first started teaching at this school I felt like it was right out of a movie. The tight night community and small town feel makes it an easy place to fall in love with. One thing I love about my students is they appreciate everything they are given. They notice appreciate their teachers and recognize the incredible student - teacher relationships that are developed at this school are rare to find in many other schools. There is a mutual respect and appreciation between staff members and students.
My Project
The Stream Tables and Sand will be used to learn about weathering and erosion. The students will experiment with different ways to increase / decrease the amount of erosion. They will be presented with the issue of having to build a new home but they need to protect it from the agents of erosion. This will help connect the learning concepts to the real world. The Density Flow Model will be used to discuss many different topics, such as, convection currents, plate tectonics, weather fronts, and the over all changes in density. To go along with this the students will use the Solar Balloon to observe the changes in the density of air as it is heated up. They will also be able to observe how darker colors absorb more incoming solar radiation.
These donations will help improve my classroom greatly.
I am often looking for ways to get my students involved in their own learning. With these donations my students will be able to manipulate different factors and not just read about different topics in the textbook but they can actually see these different concepts happening right before their eyes. The more engaged students become in their learning the more excited they will get about learning.
