Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many students learn through visual hands-on activities. Centers and learning games give children extra practice while making that practice fun at the same time. This project not only will help the struggling learners, but it will give me the resources to challenge my more advanced learners.
My school is in a low income area.
We have a high percentage of students who receive free and reduced price lunch. In these economically challenging times, parents are working more than one job to support their families. This makes it hard for them to find time to sit down and read stories to their children. Many of my students have not been to a pre-kindergarten program and have never been exposed to the joy of learning.
My Project
Right now, I meet with my small groups either at my kidney table, which puts my five and six year old's too far away for me to help them effectively, or at a tiny wooden preschool table which doesn't have enough room and can only fit two students with no room for materials.
A horseshoe table will enable me to have more effective small groups with my students.
This table will allow me to meet with four to five students at a time. It will also allow me to be close enough to them that I can point to words, numbers, pictures, and lines.
