This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is Title I and we have low income families with 100% of our school population receiving free breakfast and lunch meals. We ended school so abruptly, it was a shock to students, teachers and all our families. Our district has continued to feed students with the meals-to-go program. We serve breakfast, lunch and now dinner meals as well. We started remote learning right away from the start of school closures, with learning packets in the pre-k - 5th grade level. We have started posting challenges that align with our curriculum onto our school's facebook page. Teachers and Paras have also posted mini lessons to the facebook page as well, for families to utilize. We are hoping to bring in more participation that way. Our students need supplies to learn at home. Some families have access to tech devices, others do not, so we want to supply our students with much needed writing tools, art supplies, counting manipulatives, building tools...to be the best they can be and continue their learning!
My Project
My pre-k students were so suddenly pulled from school, thinking they'd be back to school, and thrown into remote learning with virtual learning packets. We have tried to make learning fun for the students by doing facebook challenges, but I would love to be able to give my students resources they can use with their families at home!
Hands-on learning is vital in pre-k!
I want to give my students foam dice and blocks for counting, patterning and building! Art tools like colored pencils, watercolors and blank writing pages would be a blank canvas for students to showcase their writing and artistic abilities. My students would be able to write stories, using their imagination. I would love to include a book about Kindergarten, so they know it is nothing to be feared and just like pre-k! Please help me give my students these resources and bring some joy into their new home learning life!
