Help me give my students organizational tools and supplies including: floor puzzles, stickers, pencil grips and a timer to help kick off the school year.
My class consists of 11 students with special needs. My students are lovable and sometimes silly bunch of Kindergarten through second graders who fall in different ranges of the autism spectrum. They have varying abilities and all come to school everyday eager to learn and do their best. My students benefit from being in an organized environment that is calming and allows for flexible seating. The children in my class are also kinesthetic learners who enjoy hands on learning and activities. They continue to teach me each day that academic and personal success can be found in inclusive classrooms that celebrate differences and accomdate for individual learning styles.
My Project
I recently moved across the country and was unable to bring many of the supplies I accumulated over the past six years of teaching. Just like moving into any new space, I am eager to make my classroom my own as well as have supplies and organizational tools to help my students succeed. My students are able to do their best work when their supplies are neatly organized in table bins and easy to access paper trays. The bean bag chairs will serve as comfortable and safe seating arrangements where they are able to take a break and decompress. Materials such as sand, whiteboards and puzzles will promote hands on learning; while games and stickers will will be used to motivate them.
