I am switching from a Reading Specialist to a second grade teacher. Many of my students come from low income families and homes where they may not have all the supports they need due to heavy responsibilities, and are not sure how to work with their children or don't have the time.
My students are wonderful children whom just may need a little extra support and shown that another adult cares for them.
As second graders, they still love you and enjoy coming to school and being with their friends. It would be wonderful to add to their confidence and keep the love forever.
My Project
I am so excited for this project so that I can help my students learn these life long math skills. The large, magnetic place value blocks will give my students a chance to actually manipulate to learn place value and number sense. The blocks will be able to be seen from far away and also, are big enough for them to use.
Many of the other items in my project will help my students be successful.
The magnetic tens frame chart, as well as the coins, will be another item that they will be able to move around and manipulate to solve problems. I will also be able to use them with ease and for a variety of lessons and projects. Again, they will be big enough where students can see them anywhere in the classroom.
