Help learning come alive with the support of interactive hands on Science and Social Studies kits.
The school is 78% non native English speakers and 85% free and reduced price lunch.
In my room, twelve of my twenty-four students speak another language other than English. Of those twelve students, two have been in the United States for less that three months. The students come to school and are extra excited when I have a strong visuals or manipulatives to support what I am teaching. The students are beautiful inside and out.
My Project
Every box set and dramatic play item I am asking for directly supports topics that I will be covering this year. For instance the insects and spiders box set supports math curriculum as well as science. The items I am asking for allow me to have a visual and something hands on so that I can integrate my science, social studies, literacy and math. By integrating my subjects it allows the instruction to be told and shown in a variety of manners to deepen understanding. The feed the dog, and rabbit games that I am asking help develop fine motor skills, counting, one to one correspondence and social skills by having the children take turns and play a game together.
As an adult I feel excited about the materials I am requesting because I know how much learning is going to happen.
If I were to purchase these materials by myself I would buy one item a year. Working with non-native English speakers and children who come from poverty-the importance of having high interest high content is of the utmost importance. I believe that every child in my room can and will learn. The materials I am requesting will help make life long learners.
