I want to be the teacher that my students need. My students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, but regardless, they all come to school ready and wanting to learn so that they can someday change and shape this world. They are kind souls who each have a voice needing to be heard. I want to help empower that voice.
My students are so uniquely different from one another, but the one thing they all have in common is their gentle curiosity and eagerness to want to learn.
6th grade is really where a lot of learning gets placed in the hands of our students. It's where we see a shift from teacher-showing to students-discovering. Each day they come into class curious to know more about our world. They are always asking questions, and I want to be able to provide a space for them to continue to do that, and to be able to answer those questions and learn from each other so that they can continue to use and find their voice in this world.
My Project
I would like to purchase glass beakers to use during our chemical changes unit to conduct experiments safely. I would like to obtain meter sticks to use for a variety of physical science labs from force and motion, to STEM engineering projects like testing friction with car ramps and the egg drop project.
Hands-On lab materials help students discover and better delve into inquiry and learning.
The materials requested won't just help my students this year, but many students for years to come. I am excited to help give my students the tools they need to become scientists who question, and solve those questions.
