My kindergarten students come to school every day eager and excited to learn despite many challenges some are facing. I teach in a low income/high poverty school in the inner city. 83% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students are English language learners. 72% of our students are Hispanic or Asian. Diversity is recognized, accepted and promoted in our classroom.
The 5 best words to describe my students are curious, cheerful, determined, imaginative, and energetic.
In our classroom creativity, innovation, and initiative are encouraged and celebrated. Children are given time to explore, make related discoveries, and experience enriched, hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities. High expectation of learning is set for all my students in an environment that is honest, respectful, caring and safe for all.
My Project
These materials will be used during our center time every morning. Students rotate through two centers daily to practice and sharpen their literacy and math skills. While students are learning in centers it allows me to work with small groups and students individually.
My students need to be actively engaged during center time for learning to occur.
With these stamps, card games, and activity boxes students will have hands on opportunities to practice their literacy and math skills. Students hearts will be on as they go fishing to find build patterns and count fish or as they practice writing letters in fun new ways beside a paper and pencil.
My English Language Learners will benefit greatly from the real life regalia in the Phonemic Awareness Sound Boxes from being able to see and touch the objects they need to sort by sound.
