Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a K to fifth-grade elementary school with 700+ children in FL providing free or reduced-price lunch to over half of our students. Some of our students' families struggle financially so there is very little extra funds for relevant, comprehensible science investigations, student supplies or equipment.
As budding computer programmers, mathematicians, engineers, and scientists, my students clamor for more opportunities to engage in computer programming and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) explorations both during and beyond the typical school day.
Our goal is to give each student the very best education and the best support possible at all times in a clean and healthy environment. Won't you please help us? We need access to basic classroom tools (laptop/mouse) and materials to better engage students with relevant, STEM based learning in a clean, as germ free of an environment as possible.
My Project
My students need a classroom center laptop to be able to research, write reports to and interact electronically with healthy learning sites such as My Plate that teaches nutrition and smart choices to students. They also need the cleaning cloths to maintain it in as much of a germ free state as possible.
It is reported that keyboards, mice, and other frequently used electronics may contain as much as 400x the bacteria found on toilet seats.
Last month saw many of my students out ill with viral infections and the flu; our New Year's resolution is for a clean classroom and healthy, happy students. Won't you please help us to keep this resolution?
