I am teaching Library and Technology, grades K-6, and am hoping to create a hub for learning and growing. Our school has amazing students and is culturally diverse with students from all over the world.
I work in a large Title I school with a high poverty rate where 87% of our students receive free or reduced-rate breakfast and lunch.
Several students in our school also go home with food bags for their families for the weekends.
Many of our students have a range of backgrounds, skills, abilities, and the challenge comes when they are all expected to reach the same level of proficiency by the end of each school year. I am hoping to bridge this gap by helping to instill a love for learning, but especially a love for reading!
Kindness is the central factor in my classroom as well as building healthy, strong relationships with their peers and teachers. I am excited to be making an impact on all grade levels.
My Project
In the library, I see all students in the school.
The library is a place where I foster not only the love of reading, but also the love of discovery and collaboration with their peers.
These hands-on manipulatives will help the students build items, independently as well as with partners. MagnaTiles are a favorite amongst the students in my library, but there aren't enough currently, to go around. These new items will give more students the opportunity to build with the items they love.
Plus Plus blocks have also been popular with the students I see. More variety will be nice to enhance the creations they can come up with.
