I teach 6th grade math at KIPP Bridge College Prep in Oakland, CA, a 5-8 middle school. KIPP students have a 7:30-5:00 schoolday and extremely high homework and behavior expectations. Our #1 goal at KIPP is to prepare all of our students for college. At a KIPP math teacher's conference, I learned about the Hands on Equations Learning System for Algebra. Through the use of chess pieces, dice, and a balance, students actively learn to balance equations and solve for variables. The amount of algebra that even a 3rd grader can do with this system is incredible! As my students are beginning to solve algebraic equations in 6th grade, I really want to use this valuable resource in my classroom to introduce algebra. So please fund a class set (30 students) of Hands on Equations for my 6th graders, and help them climb the mountain to college! Go to www.borenson.com to see how Hands on Equations works. Thanks for your help, your contribution is truly making a difference.
