My school is located in a rural, close-knit community. My students are kind and thoughtful. We are almost like a little family. They look out for each other, and I am proud of the thoughtful things they say and do for each other every day.
My students come to school eager to learn every day.
They come to school very happy and full of energy. I try to give them many opportunities to move around and work together throughout the day. They love to talk and share their ideas. They are eager learners who are very curious about the world.
My students have a wide variety of personalities. Their strengths and weaknesses are also varied. I try to incorporate many different activities to keep them engaged and appeal to their different learning styles.
My Project
With these materials, I will be able start doing STEM Fridays with my students. Students will work in small groups and rotate through different stations. They will have to use their reading, math, and critical thinking skills to work through open-ended, realistic situations and problems.
I would be able to have a hands-on engineering station with a different challenge for my students to solve every week.
In the beginning, students could use the challenge cards to guide their thinking and to have a picture to look at. As they become comfortable using the materials, I will give them less guidance and see what they can come up with on their own. Students could share their ideas, experiment with different possible solutions, and rethink and change their design until they got it right. This type of learning will make them better problem-solvers as they get older and their learning becomes more complex.
