My students are a mix of students from a medium-sized rural community. Our school district is unique in that all four buildings are connected and share a sense of community through the K-12 campus. It facilitates great teamwork and the ability to collaborate with colleagues from K-12 in all subjects across all disciplines. As our school continues to push into the twenty-first century, we are implementing programs that encourage collaboration, digital access, and continued growth of the latest technologies into the classrooms.
My students are active, mobile learners who learn best when they are working collaboratively with their peers in a classroom environment that is both creative and lively.
My classroom is flexible, chaotic at times, never quiet, and always moving. The students in my class are diverse learners from a variety of backgrounds and income levels. They are also a mix of learning abilities. They're energetic, undeniably curious, and have a genuine desire to learn!
My Project
I would like to help my students become independent learners. I would like to help engage my students with hands on STEM activities to supplement their daily learning. These activities would be used in centers throughout the day that the students will have access to and be able to explore.
These various STEM activities will help my students become independent, self-directed learners when they are given opportunities to engage in centers of choice.
They will help my students to learn to get creative, to explore new ideas in a safe space, to learn how to focus, to express themselves and collaborate, and to learn how to fail and try again. Using the Snap Circuits kits, students will be introduced to the basic properties of electricity and electronics.
