Hands-On Disney Planet Project To Benefit The Environment
My students need an Earthbox Garden Guide, Ready To Grow Kit, Self-Watering System, Revolving Bookstand, and a 3-Hole Punch to complete our Disney Environmental Project.
Planting a garden and interacting with nature is one of the joys of living on earth! That is what I want my students to know and understand, that the simple joys of this earth need to be protected and cared for. This proposal is part of my Disney Planet Challenge Project to benefit the environment.
My Title 1 school is located in a wonderful city in NC that serves one of the largest military bases in the country.
We reach several hundred children with military connected families, as well as students with military parents who are currently deployed. We have students who have traveled around the world and some who have never left this city. All economic levels are represented, as well as students with English as their second language. My class is a diverse class of enthusiastic learners who love learning about the world around them. I have the SLD cluster class with many ethnic groups and learning levels represented. My students need to understand how nature affects their lives and how the simple joys of planting and watching birds can be beneficial in making our earth a better place to live. By learning more about nature they will in turn be learning what is needed to protect nature and benefit our environment as they grow academically.
My Project
My students are full of energy and are very caring and compassionate children. They do not always have the background knowledge that will ensure they grow up to be children that protect our natural resources and wildlife. We need a small garden to care for that will also attract birds. The Earth-box will be used to begin our outside garden. We have many books on birds and their songs and need a place to keep these books for reference and reading. The Bookstand will be our inside Birdhouse as we learn more about these creatures that are all around us. We will keep a journal for our observations and write summaries of our findings. We will need a hole puncher to make it easier to record our observations and organize our research or our science portfolios.
This hands on science project will be year long and will help my students learn how wonderful plants and birds can be.
With this knowledge and new found excitement for nature will come a thirst for more learning and will also develop a strong foundation of nature and how important it is to our environment and our world. Our children need to know that they are the future keepers of the earth. Helping my class with this project will be giving them a gift that will last a lifetime.
