Welcome! Thank you for visiting our page. My Pre-K classroom community is one in which students are activating their senses through educational and social experiences designed to foster skills needed for a strong transition into Kindergarten.
In our diverse and inclusive classroom, located in the inner city of Pittsburgh, students aged 3-5 years old that are low income are provided with a free comprehensive program that is designed to nurture and boost each student's individual distinctive strengths, as well as cultivate, encourage, and support their families.
Each day is filled with a new adventure awaiting students, in which they can enthusiastically discover, question, interact and grow. My educational assistant and I try to instill and maintain an excitement and love for learning that will be there for years to come in their educational journeys.
In this day and age, it is almost a given that students, even Pre-K students, have access to iPads and digital learning opportunities at home and/or within the classroom environment. This holds true for our class community. Students have access to 3 mini iPads, however, that is basically it. It is up to me to research, decide, and provide students with developmentally appropriate apps for students to use as an educational tool. While there are some apps that meet the demands of being used as an effective educational tool, there are drawbacks that I face including having to pay for apps out of my own pocket and having students look at the iPads as more as an entertainment system then a device that can enhance their learning while having fun. This is where our project steps in.
Providing students with the Osmo Kits will allow our iPads to become the needed hands-on educational tool that will provide endless opportunities and customized learning experiences for my eager early learners.
These materials would help provide my students with an ability to experience, learn, and understand how the digital world that surrounds us can affect them in a positive way providing appropriate and fun opportunities all while learning is taking place.
