Benjamin Franklin said “Tell me and I’ll forget. Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I learn”. I am a Pre-K teacher and my students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with a variety of different needs with over 93% of our students receiving free lunch. My students love hands on activities where they learn by participating and being involved.. It is my goal to involve them as much as possible in all different ways of learning and techniques.
My Project
I am asking for hands on materials and learning tools. Children want to play and utilize everything that they can do grasp a skill so why not make it fun for them.
Children learn by doing; they want something to hold in their hands and use to learn.
The hands on math center will allow students to use different types of manipulatives to work on patters, sorting, counting and measuring. The Rhyming House will allow students to not only hear the rhyming words but will allow them to see the pictures. The follow dot number stamps will help students on their numbers and handwriting. The no spill paint cups will help students when painting and keeping the paint inside the cups without spilling it. The beginning sound phoneme awareness will help students with beginning sounds and build their vocabulary with the hands on objects. The classroom calendar kit and cutout calendar kits will allow children to use the calendar during whole group while learning the dates, the months and the days of the week. The all about the letter pocket chart will be used in the morning during whole group to discuss our letter of the week and different vocabulary words that go with that letter. The pattern and sorting folder, the number and counting folder and the shapes and measurement folder will allow students to grasp these learning skills using hands on materials. They will have different activities to do for each skill. Finding the letter activity will helps students use hands on materials to be able to recognize and match their letters. The organizer tray will be used to place extra work for students who get done early.
All of the learning tools will be used in small groups, whole group and at my teacher table.
