Mr. J. from Washington DC is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 3 Vernier LabPro interfaces.

Contemporary research shows that it is necessary to immerse students in the content under investigation, and give them experiences that make the material come alive. This was the case throughout my education as soon as affordable technology became available for classroom use across disciplines. As a science and math teacher at a Public Charter School in DC, my students are 15 through 21 year old English language learners in a large urban area. Most have full-time jobs outside of the time that they spend in school working towards their GEDs. Unfortunately, as a small charter school, we do not have access to the same science and mathematics funding resources as a traditional public school. The majority of the class has Individual Education Plans (special needs accommodations), with varying levels of literacy in English or their native language.
The funding at my school is extremely limited because of our low enrollment, as a result of the unique population that we serve. I have struggled with providing rich and meaningful mathematics and science experiences because of a lack of manipulatives, equipment, and financial support from the administration.
The LabPro interface is a robust instrument that lends itself to use across disciplines. Whether it's for my conceptual physics class, where it would be used with the motion detectors that I have already had donated; or for my chemistry class, where it could be used with pH meters to make graphs of titrations; or in my math class, where it would be used for students to visualize quadratic functions and parabolic motion, to make the formulas more tangible, it's a great piece of hardware.
Your funding of this project will ensure that my students, of substantially disadvantaged backgrounds, will have an even playing field in terms of their exposure to technology, understanding of mathematical and physical processes, and readiness for the next phase of their education. Furthermore, this type of technology allows for the students' immersion in the content, which, in turn, allows for a more authentic learning experience and thus the development of higher-order thinking and processing skills.
