Hands-On, Critical Thinking Station for Struggling Learners!
My students need 2 Osmo learning stations to build critical thinking and problem solving skills. The 2 stations will support a small group of 4 learners.
All About Education-
Each and every student in my classroom is capable of learning. However, it is often challenging to motivate the students to want to learn and explore new information on their own. It is my hope that as my students go to 3rd grade they take with them a passion for education.
I have an awesome group of second graders in my class this year.
These students exhibit so many wonderful qualities. They are inspiring and genuinely kind-hearted. As an educator, it's my job to determine where each student is and then create or find tools to help improve areas of weakness as well as strengthen skills to a higher level. This year, the area of weakness is problem-solving. I notice many of my students lack this skill which builds frustration within themselves. I feel my students need a great tool to help build more critical thinking and problem solving skills in a fun, innovative way, while being challenging at the same time. My school and district are technology savvy and are always looking for the next great thing in technology to bring into the classroom. When I discovered the Osmo system, I knew this would be a wonderful tool to have.
My Project
The Osmo gaming system for iPads will be an awesome addition to our daily reading and math station activities. During each of the subject areas, the students will move to each station according to the rotation chart. The Osmo station will be displayed in the classroom in a designated area. It will be an assigned station. Four students will be able to work on it at the same time while being actively engaged. When students are working in this particular station, they will click the Tangram app on the iPad, then they will work with the Tangram shapes as they arrange tangible puzzle pieces into matching on-screen shapes while advancing to higher levels. Students will then have the second option of working with the app Words. The strategy is to be the first to guess and spell out the on-screen hidden words by tossing down real-life letters faster than their partner.
The addition of this new learning station will bring new meaning and purpose to critical thinking skills for my students.
They will began to process things in different ways. Children need the opportunity to think through things in a non-stressful way while feeling success.
