My Students

I teach science in a Title I school in Utah. Our students have really struggled with keeping up with online learning and finding learning fun when they get into the classroom. They are truly amazing students who work through all the hardships that life has thrown at them. They are curious and love hands on projects that help them learn.

With COVID this year, it has been hard to provide these same hands on experiences for students that they so need in order to learn.

Not only have in-person events been hard to maintain but also the mental and emotional toll it has taken on students is reaching an all time high. My students would really benefit from having more opportunities to complete hands on projects, have snacks and a fun classroom environment. This will help them feel safe and welcome at school and excited about the learning they are doing. These opportunities will help make school a fun place for them to be and improve their learning by providing them with opportunities to see how what they learn in school relates to the world around them.

My Project

As a new teacher, there are many materials I have not been able to provide for my students this year. Having flexible seating and snacks for the classroom would help my students get a better education by being more focused in the classroom. Along with flexible seating and snacks, my students need materials for our projects the rest of the year. We will be learning about composting, learning how to cook, designing posters about our ecosystem, and more!

I know with these materials I will be able to help reach my students more during a hard year of dealing with COVID-19.

These materials will be vital in making sure we can continue to do projects in class and get real hands on experiences throughout the school year. The snacks, games, and fidgets will also help so many of my students who have struggled emotionally and mentally this year being back in school.
