My Students

Our community is experiencing a high level of poverty. Students are homeless and struggling in school. I teach the special education, autism, life skills program. Some of the children I work with are very intelligent, but struggle with being in the classroom and the typical school experience. Other children have significant delays and are learning life skills.

This year the children really want to learn something new.

We are currently exploring the outdoors, at the farm, once a week. They are excited about building things, history, art and engineering. We have made some amazing art projects to compliment our science and history studies. The skills the children are able to demonstrate when they are inspired is incredible!

My Project

I am going to send these space kits to all of my students. We will zoom. I will read the books and instructions to the students and will engage in the hands-on activities together.

My students need hands-on materials and a highly engaging teacher to learn.

These students will be so excited to get mail. Then to be able to participate in making a constellation box, learning about the life cycle of a star, making a solar system mobile, creating a planet poster, making a night-vision flashlight. This will give students an excitement about learning and help them feel calm.
