This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a inner city school servicing students with economic challenges. Over 90 percent of the students qualify for free and reduced lunches, and students benefit greatly from community and outside support. The students are eager for new experiences and to exhibit their talents.
The art program is designed to strengthen skills in language, social interactions, and fine motor development.
The art curriculum is taught by linking academic activities such as reading, math, history, and writing to visual and tactile productions in art. Students are eager to learn how to integrate color, texture, spatial concepts, and materials. For example students will make colorful mosaics using colored paper and glue, and students will use wax crayons and tempura paint to make resist stories about their neighborhood.
My Project
These students want to be great artists, having supplies gives the students the opportunity to make beautiful objects to share with their families and friends. The children will be taught to make projects that involve color, line, texture, shape, repetition, value, and space.
Art connects people to their past through discovering history, telling stories, and depicting the world around them.
As a new art teacher at the school I am excited to bring new projects and ideas about how the children can make connections to their other subjects. Students will learn to use color complements to make color appear brighter and make masks to introduce narratives through theater. We enter contests and display our art around the city, we love to share our beautiful creations. We are requesting basic art supplies such as tempera cakes, crayons, scissors, glue, and construction paper to make this year a success!
