This will be my first year of teaching my own class of third graders, and I couldn't be more excited to get to know them. I teach in a rural school district on a beautiful school campus out in the country. What I know about the students this year, before I've met them, is that with last years in person learning getting cut short and their report card information, they will need a lot of support. This year will be a challenge to find new ways to meet them at their instructional level, but I know they are eager to learn and ready for a challenge.
My Project
The classroom set of headphones will be used to help students focus on the lessons they will be learning from their home environments. This will be especially important for my students who need extra language and literacy support. Learning from home could bring a distracting environment, so it will be important to give each student an equal opportunity to hear the lessons and to practice speaking and listening to develop those crucial language skills.
The math kits that I plan to build will include the base ten pieces and the red/white chips for a hands on experience learning math from home.
When students are able to physically practice regrouping numbers while learning each operation, it helps develop foundational concepts of place value.
With your help, my students could be more engaged and have a sense of normalcy while learning from home this year. Thank you!
