Help me give my students 2 awesome and exciting hands on, solution-driven experiences they will remember after returning from almost 2 years of learning virtually.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In D.C., our students are very aware of human impacts to the environment. Each year we tackle Real-World issues that tackle problems and issues within the city. Students brainstormed some projects they wanted to complete that align with our standards for the year and decided they wanted to explore the following: 1. How pollution could impact various marine organisms and 2. Addressing the issue of food deserts.
Students simply want to learn how to explore different methods in which they can grow the produce they like and explore how various marine organisms would be impacted on numerous levels of organization by pollution.
My Project
Our 8th graders will tackle the job of assembling and using the hydroponics kit to grow simple greens inside, while 7th grade will attempt to grow simple greens outdoors in a little plot.
Both 7th and 8th graders will explore the various systems and levels of organization that exist within frogs and determine what makes them the ideal indicator species.
Students will also incoporate a mini-STEM project focused on reducing pollution in various wards within D.C. and work backwards to trace how each act of pollution could impact marine life.
