My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty district, my students often face challenges beyond the classroom.
My students come from diverse, and at times, very challenging backgrounds.
Despite economic challenges, my students are eager to learn and thrive in an environment that supports an enjoyment of learning and discovery. I am hoping, with community support, that I will be able to provide that environment. A supportive community can help me address the basic foundational skills some of my students need strengthening in.
My Project
I was very excited when I learned about these materials because they would provide a hands-on approach for my students to learn about balancing equations! This can at times be a challenging concept for students to understand and implement. The students will be physically balancing equations on a scale!
Providing more interactive ways to learn is a goal of mine because it solidifies the material.
Developing a strong foundation and understanding in algebra will increase my student's confidence in their learning abilitiies! This will also help prevent students from 'checking out' by providing a scaffold as they learn the new material!
