My students need sensory objects and manipulatives to help ease stress and improve success. They also need technology that will allow greater access to the materials.
The learners in my classroom all strive to achieve their greatest potential. There are bumps along the road of learning, but we come together to make sure we reach our destination. I try to provide what is needed for my students to gain access to all of the materials and opportunities around them.
My students are a small group of individuals with severe special needs.
Each student works their hardest to be successful in and out of the classroom. It can be very difficult to always find the funding to give these students exactly what they need in order to accomplish their goals, but that has never stopped them from putting forth their best effort. My goal is for every student that comes through my classroom to have pride in the work that they do. I am lucky to be at a school that understands the importance of being a community. There is a realization that ALL learners are welcome and accepted, no matter their learning style or abilities. It is this type of environment that allows one to really appreciate their own differences and take pride in what they can do.
The materials that I am requesting will allow the students to gain access to a higher level of learning. By using technology that won't require small fine motor skills, the students will be able to interact with a screen without frustration and struggles. The added manipulatives will give the students another view of math materials in a hands-on lesson rather than trying to imagine the concepts. When school becomes stressful they will have the opportunity to use a variety of sensory objects to take a break and refocus on what needs to be done. These objects also act as gross and/or fine motor tasks to help build strength and coordination. All of these materials will help the students learn more and gain a better understanding of what is really being taught.
The donations made to this project will greatly improve the education of the students in this classroom.
They will have a greater sense of pride in the work that they produce because they could accomplish tasks on their own. They will come away at the end of the year with deeper knowledge of the curriculum, better skills, and most important, great memories of the learning experience.
