Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Spend your life lifting people up, not putting people down," was a quote I read inside of a school building. I decided to incorporate the idea in all aspects of my life, especially with the students that I teach.
Many of my Kindergarten students have impoverished home lives.
Every one of my students qualifies for free school lunch. Most start the school year not knowing the letters of the alphabet and how to spell or even write their names. Most of my students do not receive parental support at home in order to reinforce the objectives covered during the school day, or to assist with completing their home learning assignments. Despite their numerous deficiencies, they are rays of sunshine that always find a way to make me smile. I am so proud at the end of each school year to see how much each student has progressed from where they started.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will promote learning in an entertaining way. The activities are colorful and the students will be engaged in hands-on activities that will increase brain activity. I have requested magnetic learning numbers to help students improve fine motor skill development to write and recognize their numbers. I have also requested the Tub O' Letters and Practice cards, because the students are able to manipulate letters independently while expanding their vocabulary. The Hot Dots quiz cards I have requested are essential for my students to exit Kindergarten with proficient phonetic skills. Hot Dots is interactive and students are able to be independent learners achieving learning gains at their own pace. The resources will help me to reach different learning styles, such as visual and kinesthetic learners for academic success.
Young children learn best when they are in a learning environment that provides opportunities for exploration.
I try to include experiences in my classroom where students are touching or viewing something related to their lives outside of the classroom walls to make deep connections in their long-term memory banks.
