This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I want to be able to provide my students with more hands-on activities in our classroom. It is so crucial in Kindergarten that students are able to have opportunities to explore using their five senses. I wish to give my students the chance to explore seasonal sensory bins. The materials that I am requesting for this project will be supplies to start sensory bins, the tubs will be used to house materials for exploration, the pom poms and animals will be used depending on the season and will coordinate with what we are learning. The self stick paper will allow students to record their findings, as well as practice writing skills such as handwriting and sentence formation that they are working hard on.

It is no surprise that each student learns differently, this year my students are more tactile learners.

I want to provide them with learning opportunities that incorporate this style of learning. I plan to fill the sensory bins with academic practice such as the phonics skills we are learning in class, as well as the fun engaging thematic materials that we read stories about. For example, I plan to incorporate a farm sensory bin where students build CVC words, in the bin there will be pompoms and farm animals that students can explore as well as have the opportunity to practice writing sentences or the words they build with a partner. My students will practice a variety of skills, as well as be engaged and have fun while they have their hands in our learning materials.
