Our students have a right to smile every day! We are a Title I school with minimal resources. The majority of our students will never experience some of the tools that more affluent schools can provide. Not only are we Title I, but we are also populated by many students of active duty military families.
We are located by one of the largest military bases and serve roughly 740 students ranging from grades K-8.
The majority of our students have special needs.
Resources are slim in our area due to the poverty level and the transient population of military children coming to our school every year. Many of these students are not prepared for the rigor of our area. We spend countless hours fundraising. In most cases, we fall short and are unable to provide our school with some of the necessary equipment that neighboring schools have in abundance. Our students recognize this and lose confidence in their abilities to be successful.
Being a Title I school, we struggle to provide our students with some of the basic equipment that students can utilize to further their educational possibilities. Our motto is "Little school, big heart!"
My Project
Our school has worked very hard to get hands free water fountains across our campus. We were able to provide our students with filling stations on the inside of the school. But, there is a big need for that same access to our outdoor PE classes and recess.
In PE, we know that hydration is important for the over health and well-being of our students.
We have even made efforts to make sure every student has access to water bottles so they can fill them without spreading germs! Currently, we have one water fountain outside and it isn't always working. This filling station would give us an opportunity to update a much-needed water fountain all while providing our students with a safer option!
