Handcrafted Jewelry From Glass

My students need a glass kiln to create glass jewelry and other functional art. This will aid in teaching my students financial literacy in the job place.

My Students

My students are excited at learning about new ways of creating art. I will show my students how to create usable glass art for items such as jewelry, glass bowls and more. I would like to teach them about financial literacy and the possibility of earning an income on items that they create.

Our school is a special act facility.

Our students range from third grade to 21 years old. The students come from all walks of life. Some come from disadvantaged homes. Some are mentally or behaviorally challenged. It is our goal to prepare them for the world and give them a fun and safe learning environment while doing so. I aim to teach them techniques using various materials, and show them practical application to aid their everyday lives.

My Project

The glass supply materials will give my students the opportunity to create usable art such as pendants, earrings, bracelets, dishes, plates etc. They will need a kiln to fire the glass creations that they make. Once the items are fired they can be used for fund raisers. The students will learn about financial literacy by running their own business by learning about things such as start up materials and supplies, promotion and advertising of their products and finally the sale of the items.

This project will make a difference for my students because they will have the opportunity to create beautiful glass jewelry and functional glass objects such as bowls and plates.

They will learn the process of financial literacy in running a business where they can promote and sell their artwork.
