My students are in high school, and like to work with wood and woodworking machinery in our shop. They build an array of different types of projects, from doing a project for a teacher down the hall, or making a bookshelf for their bedroom. We have several students that really get into doing stuff for themselves. In some cases, they really enjoy helping others by fixing something for them or building something from scratch. I enjoy being in the shop helping my students figure out how to overcome little problems as they progress through the difficulties of their projects.
My Project
My students in our Construction classes are required to and want to use hammers squares, rulers and many other tools related to the construction industry. Our current hand tools are becoming low in number and many are damaged and worn out. Also during this pandemic students are better off not borrowing another students tools, my goal is for each student to have a tool belt with at least the basic tools in there ready to work. These tools can be disinfected at the end of each class, but it is very hard to disinfect each tool after each use, then passed on to another student. We need new tools so why not try to get enough for each student to have his/her own.
